Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question/clarification you'd like addressed? Send it to patricia@colormebadd.net
Q: Was R&B singer Jon B. in Color Me Badd?
A: No, and it's surprising how many people think so - it has even been said by radio DJs introducing Jon's songs, on more than one occasion. Jon wrote, produced, and/or did guest vocals on a few tracks for CMB's album "Now & Forever" (Ooh Tonight, From the Back, Someone's Missing Love...); perhaps that's where the confusion comes from.
Q: Was/is Mark Calderon's brother Ernesto (Ernie) a member of Color Me Badd?
A: Not officially, though he has "guest-starred" at some shows, mainly as a dancer.
He was in the "La Tremenda" interlude on the Time and Chance album (as "Gorgeous George"), and toured with the guys in the early days as their choreographer.
Bryan Abrams, Mark Calderon, and Kevin "KT" Thornton are the members of Color Me Badd. The only other official member was Sam Watters, who now works as a songwriter and producer and is no longer involved with CMB.
Q: Did Color Me Badd ever perform at the Apollo Theatre in New York? (sent by Senee')
A: Yes, they did. It wasn't a It's Showtime at the Apollo appearance, but rather, a Lou Rawls "Parade of Stars" special. They performed "I Adore Mi Amor."
Q: Is the songwriter/producer Sam Watters the same Sam that used to be in Color Me Badd?
A: Yes. In fact, if you listen to the earlier songs Sam and business partner Louis Biancaniello worked on, you'll hear Sam singing backing vocals as well (and small solos on songs like "There You Were" by Jessica Simpson & Mark Anthony, and "Don'tcha Wanna" by Anastacia).
Another item to address...
The "Sam Watters song" that's been running rampant on YouTube: Sam wrote a song called "Why Would I Ever?" for a singer named Paula DeAnda, and the song somehow ended up on YouTube (and elsewhere on the Internet) with Sam Watters as the performer name. So, no, there's not also a female singer by the same name, it's all a big, widespread misunderstanding. This has been addressed by several people, but it still goes on.
Q: Did the group Color Me Badd ever go by another name?
A: Yes. When the guys first began singing together in Oklahoma City, they went by the name "Take One." To avoid confusion with the gospel/jazz group Take 6, and to better represent their message, the name Color Me Badd was adopted before the guys moved to New York in 1989. Former member Sam Watters found the name in an Oklahoma City newspaper, in the form of a local racehorse called "Color Me Bad," and decided it sounded good. The guys agreed it summed up their message: "if you color [in other words, label] us anything, color us badd... badd as in good... with two Ds... extra badd!" However, the guys never released any material under a different name.
Q: I heard that the lead singer, Bryan Abrams, released a solo album - is that true?
A: Yes, it is true. "Welcome To Me" was released in the summer of 2001, exclusively through what was Bryan Abrams' official website at the time. Unfortunately, it is no longer in print, but you can find it on eBay sometimes. There are a few newer songs you can listen to on Bryan's MySpace Music page as well.
Q. Did Bryan really record an album with Kool & the Gang?
A. There is a version of the Kool & the Gang classic "Joannah" on iTunes that features Bryan on lead vocals, but as of now, there is no full album.
Q. What's the "I Wanna Sex You Up - The Best Of (Re-Recorded/Remastered Versions)" EP I've seen on iTunes?
A. It features four Color Me Badd songs: both versions of "I Wanna Sex You Up," as well as "All 4 Love" and "I Adore Mi Amor," all re-recorded by Bryan Abrams. He does all the lead vocals and harmonies himself.
